Calvert Street Lane Closures Beginning this weekend, there will be temporary lane closures on Calvert Street between Pleasant and Bath streets. On Saturday, March 6, and Sunday, March 7, the closures will occur from 6 a.m. through 6 p.m. Starting Monday, March 8, closures will occur overnight, between 7 p.m. and 5 a.m.
Further north, Calvert Street will be closed between 33rd Street and University Parkway between 6 a.m. and noon, although access to the parking garage near Union Memorial will be maintained. Motorists will be detoured west on 33rd Street, north on St. Paul Street, then east on University Parkway. We also recommend Charles Street as an alternate route north.
Monument Street Lane Closures Starting Monday, March 8, there will be lane closures on Monument Street between Ensor and Chester Streets. Daily closures will occur between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. and are expected to last eight weeks.
Fayette Street Lane Closures This Saturday, March 5, one lane of traffic on Fayette Street will be closed for conduit work at Green Street.
Construction Completion Announcement
The road closure of Aliceanna Street and Central Avenue will end on Friday, March 5. Repairs to the water main at that intersection will continue, but the road will be open to through traffic from Central Avenue to Exeter Street.
ONGOING ALERT: Russell Street Ramp Closure (Exit 52) From Saturday, March 6, until Saturday, March 20, The Russell Street ramp from northbound I-95 (exit 52) will be closed for BG&E work. The closure will be in effect 24 hours a day and the ramp will not re-open until the work is completed.
Northbound traffic on I-95 that would normally take Exit 52 should the BWI Parkway (MD 295) which leads to Russell Street. Or, click on the Alternative Routes link to the right to find other ways you might reach your Downtown destination.
Downtown Traffic Advisory for Saturday, March 6 The Konica Minolta Face-Off Classic Lacrosse Tournament will take place at M&T Bank Stadium Saturday, March 6. The games begin at 11 am, the final game begins at 4 pm. Motorists are
advised to prepare for heavy traffic around the stadium.
St. Patrick's Day Traffic Advisories: More Details to Follow Parade: Sunday March 14 The parade will begin at 2 pm at the intersection of Charles and Centre Streets. It will continue from Cathedral to St. Paul, Charles Street to Pratt Street, and it will disband at Market Place at Pratt Street.
5K Shamrock Run: Sunday March 14
The Shamrock Run will begin at 1:15pm at the 500 Block of North Charles Street. It will head South to Conway, East to Light Street, and South to Key Highway. Runners will turn around at Jackson Street to Key Highway, North on Light Street, and East on Pratt Street.
Motorists are advised to plan accordingly.
Circulator Success
The newly-launched Charm City Circulator has attracted more riders than expected in its first two weeks. It is also drawing rave reviews from people who have used this free, environmentally-friendly service.
City transportation officials were expecting fewer than 1,000 riders a day, but ridership exceeded 1,200 per day for a total of approximately 15,000 riders. Officials are also pleased that the service is meeting its goal of arriving at stops every ten minutes.
So far, the east/west Orange route is running, taking passengers from the Hollins Market area on the west to Harbor East on the east. Two other routes, including a north/south route from Cross Street to Penn Station, will begin later in the spring. Lombard Street Lane Closures
Beginning Tuesday, January 19, lane closures will be implemented along Lombard Street between Light and Greene Streets for utility work. The closures will remain in effect through the duration of the project, which is expected to be completed in mid-April. Motorists traveling in this vicinity should expect delays and are encouraged to use alternate routes.

New Dedicated Bus-Bike Lanes Created on Lombard and Pratt Streets The right-hand lanes of Pratt and Lombard streets have been reserved for bus and bicycle usage. According to the Department of Transportation, dedicated bus-bike lanes have gone into effect on Lombard and Pratt Streets between Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard and President Street.
These specially-striped lanes give priority to bicycles and busses, including the new Charm City Circulator. Drivers may also use the lanes for making right turns. Motorists found in violation of the dedicated lanes are subject to a $90 fine and the citation may result in points against the driver.
Utility Work on N. Charles Street
Trigen is conducting utility work on N. Charles Street between Saratoga and Pleasant Streets. The project will close the right lane to traffic. At least one lane will be open at all times. During afternoon peak (4 - 6 pm), the right parking lane will be restricted to facilitate traffic flow. Trigen is working with business owners to reduce the impact on businesses and patrons. All business will remain open for the duration of the construction.
I-295 Construction
The Maryland State Highway Administration is widening the B-W Parkway between I-695 and I-195. Construction will involve lane closing on nights and weekends, but will not be scheduled during public events like Ravens or Orioles games. Work is expected to be completed in fall 2011. Alternate routes include I-95, I-97, and US 1.
Ongoing Construction Projects
Mercy Hospital Construction Mercy Hospital is moving forward with construction of its $400 million inpatient tower building. In the coming months, this could bring delays and lane closures around the site in the vicinity of St. Paul Place, Calvert Street, and Pleasant Street.
